About Us

Our Mission: To honor and recognize the Korean War Veterans and inspire America's future leaders.

Our Goal: To give the Korean War Veterans the greater opportunity to engage in social activities, build lifelong friendships with other veterans, and be proud of their service to our country. We want to ensure their legacies of service will live on long after they are all gone.

Our Purpose: So many veterans kept their war memories to themselves all their lives.  Providing them the opportunity to share stories of why they joined the military inspires our youth and tremendously impacts their quality of life as they experience healing.

2 Corinthians 9:6 (KJV)

But this I say, he which soweth sparingly shall reap sparingly, and he which soweth

bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

Our Story

For KC Bertling, a native of the Republic of Korea, sharing a hot meal with the Korean War veterans was her childhood ambition.

In 2006, KC and her husband Sam had the golden opportunity to host their first luncheon with a local Korean restaurant owner for six veterans and two spouses who attended.

Since then, the program has exceeded their expectations as they continue to host the annual lunches paid out of their pockets.

As a result of many prayers with encouragement from friends and consideration of increasing expenses as attendance grew each year, the Legacy 4 Korean War Veterans Foundation (L4KWVF) came to life as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization in January 2011.

In November 2012, L4KWVF sponsored nine Korean War veterans and three guardians with all expenses paid for a weeklong trip through their “Revisit Korea Project”.  All nine veterans who took this trip to revisit Korea shared their testimonies on how it has profoundly impacted their lives and brought healing from the war-torn memories of more than six decades.

Honoring the Korean War veterans is the foundation's primary goal.  However, the foundation has expanded its mission to provide social activities for other veterans who have served in Korea after the War to allow them to be engaged with the Korean War Veterans and hear their stories.

Team L4KWVF members are all volunteers, and they will continue to honor veterans regardless of where they have served, with special emphasis on the Korean War veterans as often as possible while inspiring America’s future leaders.
